The moment of the September Equinox in 2026 was at 00.06 UTC (02.06 am LT) on the 23rd. The nearest sunset was in the late afternoon on Tuesday 22nd as shown in the first photograph taken at 5.20 pm and a x30 speed time-lapse video recorded between 5.25 and 5.28 pm. For comparison a montage is presented which shows twelve September Equinox sunsets taking place in clear skies within a day of the moments of equinox in almost the same place on the summit of Murahwa Mountain from 2014 to 2025. The final image is a composite in which the position of the setting Sun during the 2016 September Equinox can be compared with those on the December 2015 (left) and June 2016 (right) Solstices in Mutare.
