Details:
Saturn displayed spokes on its B ring of unusual size, at 23:14 UT on September 27. These are temporary dark structures discovered by the Voyager spacecraft. They orbit Saturn at the same speed as the ring particles, completing one orbit in about 10 hours, and are likely generated by dust lifted by meteoroid impacts on the ring and driven by electromagnetic forces associated with the planet’s magnetosphere. They develop particularly around the equinoxes: the descending equinox occurred on Saturn on May 6, 2025.
