Details:
Although it was discovered weeks ago by the Catalina Sky Survey and is therefore well known, this comet has not yet been given an official designation. At magnitude 11, however, it is within the range of amateur telescopes. The comet, unofficially designated C46K1R1, is currently moving from Ophiuchus toward Scorpio. The comet is now near Earth and is not getting brighter. The color image was created from two sets of exposures taken simultaneously. A 16“/3.2 astrograph with a QHY 600 and an 8”/f-2 RASA with an Asi 2600 MC were used—the exposure time for both sets was 30 minutes each. Michael Jäger, Gerald Rhemann
