Details:
After seeing Eliot Herman’s image of this bright Supernova on Spaceweather.com on the 3rd November, I decided to try and capture an image of the SN as well. To my great surprise, there it was showing itself in all its glory in the constellation of Horologium up in the south eastern sky last night. I was able to capture nearly two hours of images before the galaxy reached the zenith at midnight and I had to end the session. This lovely shaped barred spiral galaxy is relatively close to us at approximately 46 million light years away and its apparent magnitude is 10th magnitude. The bright giant red star to the bottom is designated HD 23719 and is in Horologium. As more exposures were being captured a double ring was being displayed around the galaxy and the bright SN could clearly been seen as a bright point of light, it was very exciting to capture ☺ ☺ ☺ The supernova is being reported as a Type 1a SN from the (IAU) Supernova working group at: https://www.wis-tns.org/object/2026ahvu Images were taken with a Seestar S50 telescope, exposure time was for two hours in a light suburban sky on the 5th November from 10pm (AEST) to midnight (AEST); the images were stacked within the unit and processed in Photoshop.
